But I sometimes wonder: If we made a lot of games starring Peach as the main character, is that something that boys would be as interested in? I don’t know. I personally feel that Peach is very appealing to girls who play our games. We certainly looked into who finds different sorts of things appealing in these games among boys and girls. Koizumi: I always think of the Super Mario games as taking place in a really cute world that appeals to everyone. In fact, we have made a game of that sort. Hayashida: Well I definitely should point out that there was a game called Super Princess Peach where you could play as Peach, so that’s definitely an option. When asked about whether Peach would star in her own game, it was questioned whether there'd be enough of an audience. That final line from Koizumi is perhaps a little ill-advised in gender-sensitive times, as the stereotyped cake-baking kidnap victim Peach may not be the most heroic character to appeal to girlfriends and wives. Perhaps some of their girlfriends will find Peach as a more appealing character to play – or your wife, of course. Koizumi: And now that Peach has been included, I’m also hoping that people will be able to play the game with their girlfriends. And so I’m really happily looking forward to the experience of playing that with my kids. In Super Mario Galaxy, we had the “assist play mode” that was available, but this is the first time that we’ve implemented a real multiplayer where the second player is moving a character around on screen in a 3D Mario game. Hayashida: I’ve always really enjoyed playing games with my children. I think that we wanted to accomplish the same kind of feeling in a 3D Mario game for the first time. on the Nintendo Entertainment System had two controllers, so you could play multiplayer with someone right next to you. Hayashida: I think that we’ve always wanted to focus on being able to see the other players around you.

Wii Remote Plus includes Wii MotionPlus technology, and works with all Wii and Wii U games that call for Wii Remote controllers. It joins other controllers themed to Nintendo characters, including the red Mario and green Luigi controllers. The new Peach Pink Wii Remote Plus will start appearing in stores in late April at a suggested retail price of $39.99. The new controller includes a crown design over the speaker, blue buttons that echo Peach’s royal jewellery and a golden-yellow plus pad that evokes her regal crown. The pink controller features many touches that pay homage to the Mushroom Kingdom’s most powerful heroine, who recently starred in the Super Mario 3D World game for the Wii U console. Nintendo hereby announces a new Wii Remote Plus controller styled in the royal fashion of Princess Peach. Hopefully, the pink remote will find its way over to Europe soon, just as the red and green versions did.
